The VOC content of water-based coatings must be controlled below the national standard, and the VOC content of water-based coatings can reach below 50g or even lower.

The cost of waterborne coating is high

The cost of waterborne coatings is still high. On the one hand, the cost of raw materials of waterborne coatings is high. On the other hand, spectral analysis of various components, heavy metals and so on are also the difficulties in the promotion of waterborne coatings. From the research and development to practical application, if the real water-based coating reaches the same performance as the oil-based paint, the cost will certainly be higher than the existing oil-based paint products.

In the field of freight cars, CRRC has stipulated that before the end of 2019, all enterprises of freight car products will fully promote the use of water-based paint; by the end of 2020, all enterprises of locomotive products will fully promote the use of water-based paint; all enterprises of passenger car products and urban rail metro vehicles will promote the use of water-based paint; all enterprises of accessories products will promote the use of water-based paint. Due to the fact that there are many branches of CRRC and the environment of each plant is different, the production line must be reformed. The baking conditions, temperature and humidity control, wind speed and other issues must be provided to reflect the performance of waterborne coatings. In the process of construction, the humidity in the south is high, and it is difficult to solve the problem without baking conditions.

For water-based paint, thick coating is difficult. For onshore wind power, the film thickness is 240um inside and 280um outside; for offshore wind power, the film thickness is 280um inside and 320um outside. Such a thick film thickness is really difficult for water-based coating. If forced thick coating, the dry film thickness is relatively high, multiple coating processes are required, and the solid content of coating is required to be increased, but the water-borne paint has high solid content, and the solid content of primer and intermediate paint can meet the requirements. The solid content of top coat can reach 50%, which is difficult to exceed 60%. A layer of dry film thickness of 50% solid content is about 20-30um. If the requirement of 120um is required for the top coat, it should be at least 3-4 Road, not only the cost of coating products is high, but also the labor cost in the construction process is high.

The performance and equipment of waterborne coatings are upgraded together to promote the development of industry. The upgrading of waterborne coatings products needs the support of raw material enterprises. The scratch resistance and hardness of waterborne coatings can be improved by improving the performance of raw materials.

The spraying equipment of waterborne coatings also needs to be upgraded, such as electrostatic spraying and solvent-free spraying, which can greatly improve the utilization rate of coatings.
